![]() ![]() There is a mix of good and bad characters, and I found it interesting that Ella's father is portrayed negatively. But I'm guessing most young readers won't "go there," so it's perhaps not an issue. The curse in this story is a unique premise, making it quite an original story even with its Cinderella roots.Probably would appeal more to girls, even though some good adventure and even peril is included. ![]() To be honest, as an adult I felt a little uneasy with the thought of a young girl who was cursed to always be obedient, since such a girl in the real world would be taken advantage of in terrible ways. I liked the protagonist, who was a princess of sorts, yet still a strong character. Spoiler alert?I feel silly, but I didn't realize until quite late in the book that this is a retelling of "Cinderella"! I think it was that late realization that was most enjoyable to me, so perhaps if you knew it ahead of time it wouldn't have that pleasant surprise. As a retelling I found this to be very creative and imaginative. ![]()
